AUTUMN 2021 OVERVIEW
We have chosen six paintings that allow us to scrutinise the emotional subtleties of personal relationships. Three of the compositions use the serenity a horizontal format offers, whilst the other three images employ the urgency of a vertical format. We will use drawing to find out how the artists use spatial arrangements to intensify the connection between the characters and allow us to discover meaning through visual analysis.
In each of these fortnightly sessions we will focus on one artwork, making quick and slow drawings transcribing some aspect of the artwork. This will follow by a short talk about the art historical context for the work, using our large screen and projector. The session will start with a short drawing exercise to consider a specific aspect of the artwork and the visual language it uses, and to warm us up for the next task which is to create a longer slower transcription of the artwork. These exercises are aimed at understanding the work further, and focusing on what about it attracts or interests you.
Transcribing through drawing is often a regular activiy for artists, however it can also be a great introduction to drawing and is suitable for all ages (aged 18+) and all levels of experience. We would like to encourage lapsed drawers who want to get back into it to join our fortnightly evening sessions.
