PUTTING SOUNDS ON PAPER

With Flynn McHardy
Tues, 30 April, 6.30-8.30pm
Location: Studio, 26 Exmouth Market, EC1 4QE

Experimental music can sometimes appear off-putting, over intellectualised, and completely pointless. In Flynn McHardy’s workshop, we will tackle this barrier and explore how drawing might help us to understand and engage with this kind of music. Flynn will reference the graphic scores, music, and writings of experimental composer Morton Feldman, specifically his ideas concerning sound and what musical composition can learn from visual art. We will visually respond to improvisations as listener, but also as performer and composer. Drawings will then be used as visual stimuli for other improvisations.

This workshop is aimed at non-musicians so hopefully people will feel confident to make some noise!

Materials are included.
