DRAWING WITH HYPERTEXTS & HORIZONTALITY

With Miriam Aston-Heatherington
Tues, 4 June, 6.30-8.30pm
Location: Studio, 26 Exmouth Market, EC1 4QE

In this workshop we will explore non-linear storytelling and reading through the use of hypertext logic in drawing. Just as web pages flatten and condense time and space into momentary interfaces, we will experiment with drawing’s capacity to condense and map networks of events, characters and parallel plot lines onto the 2D plane.

References for non-linear storytelling include: Mark Lombardi’s Global Network drawings of American fraud and scandal, Henrik Olson’s remapping of the history of queer sexuality and Hypertextuality in Vladimir Nabokov’s Pale Fire.

During the workshop, we will create narratives that may have taken place in that space, taking on the roles of draughtsman as detective, bricoleur or trickster.

Materials are included.
