Memory and Observation

Friday, 17 May, 10am-4pm (1 hour lunch break)
Location: Studio, 26 Exmouth Market,  EC1R 4QE
with Joana Galego

Joana Galego has always been interested in drawing’s potential to translate what can hardly be put into words. In this workshop, we will be guided by the question What do I want to say? and explore how to materialise an idea by combining drawing from memory and observation. Through a three-staged working process - sketching, researching and formalising - participants will be encouraged to engage deeply with the emotions and feelings they want to express within their work.

Starting in the morning with thumbnail sketches sparked by words and imagination we’ll then draw from observation, gathering elements which will fill and inform a final piece to be worked on through the afternoon.

Materials are included.
