WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT FROM EVERYTHING?
with Issey Kang and Alex Heard
Tuesday 29 October
6.30-8.30pm
What have we learnt from ‘everything’? The early days of the internet were dark and mythical, and could still be shaped by hand. Forget the slickness of Wix and standardised user interfaces, websites could be rabbit warrens or medieval follies containing novels, hand drawn gifs, and imaginary boroughs. That could be the case, anyway, in the world of Luci Eyers and Steve Rushton’s early artist-run ‘everything’ editorial from the 1990s; long before the seeds of ‘content’ were sown into the contemporary imagination. Artists Issey Kang and Alex Heard, scouring the ruins of ‘everything’, and after Steve and Luci’s debut historical deep-dive of their time working together (28 October, 6.30-8.30pm), will run an experimental, performance-drawing workshop, gathering ‘lessons’ from that twilight-era of the internet.
Bios:
Issey Kang is an artist currently in the ACME/UAL Associate Studio Programme. Her work explores notions of characterisation and style filtered through internet studies, which manifest in nail varnish drawings, futuristic mannequins and folded paper sculptures. Recent shows include ‘Like it or Lump it’ at Danny Profit, and ‘Fairytale Ambitions’ at Hackney Gallery.
Alex Heard is an artist working with ceramics, installation and video. He just completed his BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths.
